Happy âPlatty Joobsâð
You may hate the phrase but the Queenâs Platinum Jubilee is still an excuse to enjoy the good weather and mingle with your local community in one of the many street parties and events.
The country may be rotten on so many levels - and no amount of misguided nationalism will fix that - but rather than celebrating the monarchy, this four day bank holiday weekend for me is about reconnecting with the local community and being grateful for the people that make up this tiny island.
It may not seem like it at the moment with all the racism, misogyny, ableism and xenophobia in our government and our news, but we have a rich and vibrant tapestry of different cultures, faiths and identities here in the UK. That is something to hold onto and foster. Itâs our strongest asset and something Iâm hopeful people will recognise as âBritishâ sooner rather than later.
Iâve spent this morning at the allotment, with help from a dear friend. Iâve said it before but it has been a welcome relief to have a serene space away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives.
We get so caught up in the moment that itâs all too easy to forget about our neighbours, at home and abroad, and those who are no longer with us, the ones we should honour by being the best versions of ourselves. No one is perfect, but we can always, always do better x
