Recently my dad shared with me a picture of my paternal grandmother that even he hadnât seen. This is not that picture as I donât feel itâs for me to share, but this is the picture I think of most fondly.
.
In total, Iâve now only seen three pictures of her: Both my paternal grandparents had passed away before I was born and my maternal grandfather, I believe, before I was old enough to remember.
.
My dad doesnât often talk about his parents, Albert and Catherine, but what I do know fills me with pride and makes me wonder what theyâd think of me. Would I be the annoying grandson causing too much ruckus or a young man with whom to share passions, family history, and advice?
.
Though I know itâs painful, I like to hear my dad talk about his childhood, and I think as adults weâve grown closer to the point where we can talk about these things. I know so much about the maternal side of the family - and I have very fond memories of my maternal grandmother - but I wish I knew my paternal grandparents and how they knew my dad when he was younger. I know they would have been very proud of himâ¤ï¸
