I really like pink, actually

Growing up, if you asked me what my favourite colour was, I would immediately reply “red”. A deep, joyful red that demands your attention and brings warmth.

As I grew slightly older I started adding “..but the colour I most like to wear is blue”. A calming, reassuring blue that works with everything.

Even today, my wardrobe, such as it is, mainly consists of blues, beiges with the odd splash of pastel colours: chinos, jeans, t-shirts, shirts or light tops. I actually really love pastel colours and I like to pull out a nice t-shirt to wear in the summer. However, it’s rare that I actually buy new clothes and the most adventurous I get is a patterned shirt or a colourful t-shirt. That said, at one time I deliberately wore odd socks - such a trend setter(!)

( Sidebar to say that, while I don’t find fashion particularly interesting, what I am finding very interesting is a fashion thread on the 32-Bit cafe. I can live vicariously through others outfits and I’m grateful for that😊 )

But, in spite of myself, I’ve recently discovered that I gravitate towards pink more than I realised:

  • When I relaunched this blog last year, I imagined my notebook layout as being predominantly pink.

  • On the 32-Bit cafe, my home away from home these days, I use a theme with pink accents.

  • In Artemis, my rss reader of choice, I use a very pink theme. I love it.

  • My dearly neglected Nintendo Switch Lite is the coral version

  • My even more neglected roller skates are yellow, but I chose them because of the pink laces and stops

I’m not ashamed by this love of pink, not at all, but I am genuinely surprised by it. Some people naturally resonate with certain colours - for my wife it’s purple, for her sister it’s yellow, for my friend it’s black - and I thought it was only blue for me.

However, discovering this delight in pink has given me a whole new perspective. Maybe there are other ways to add a splash of colour to my life. What colours do you gravitate towards? How does colour feature in your life?
