Salón des Fleurs
Just a short post today, partly in response to the photo-a-day prompt 'Treat', and to continue the highlights of our trip to Madrid last week. On Sunday we made time for tea at Salón des Fleurs, a beautiful little cafe on Calle de Guzmán el Bueno. I called ahead and booked us a midday treat. The cafe is a little off the beaten path, being a fair walk from both the Guzmán el Bueno and Islas Filipinos metro stations, however i'd suggest calling ahead as it can only be popular for those in the know.
The interior is lavishly decorated with flowers in full bloom and French antique style furniture and fittings. There is comfortable seating downstairs, surrounded by quirky hanging birdcages and fairy lights in the large windows, while a beautifully ornate iron staircase gives access to an upstairs balcony housing shelves with delightful curios for sale.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to shop, but we did stay long enough to enjoy a relaxing cup of tea in gorgeous china mugs, with a slice of heavenly light violet cake. The filling had the texture of mousse and tasted of just a hint of Parma Violets. It was delicious. Myself and my Mother-in-Law washed it down with a soothing cup of Earl Grey, while Lizzie had slightly spiced Apple Pie. Some of the tea recipes can be found on the website.
I'm only sorry that we couldn't stay longer and I felt a little guilty snapping pictures but it was a gorgeous cafe. I think the pictures speak for themselves though and would highly recommend a visit :-)

This is the second of a handful of posts highlighting some of our experiences in Madrid at the end of October. It’s also my Day 3 post for #NaBloPoMo / #NanoPoblano
