I’m starting to get my blog set up in a useable state. I’ve cleaned up some formatting errors in some old posts but there’s still a few to tweak.
Recently i’ve been adding categories to my posts to better guide the odd visitor. This has been a great point of deliberation for me (aren’t things always?) since i don’t want to put pressure on my writing to conform to preset topics.
From the very beginning this blog has been for and about me and the random thoughts i occasionally spew forth. It works for me since my interests are many and i don’t claim to be an expert on any. Introducing fixed topics would stifle my spontaneity and what do you do with those posts that just don’t fit anywhere?
For the time being i’ve settled on high level categories like technology and gaming. I was tempted to use a quirky naming scheme but i’ve gone for straight and to the point to enhance usability. Further down the line i may look at tags to differentiate posts further.
It’s been a surprising trip down memory lane doing this. I’ve found posts that i’m genuinely proud of aswell as those that make me cringe. There’s rants and opinions in there that seem alien to me now but they’re part of my journey so they’ve earned their place. Adding to my story are all the comments i’ve recieved (thank you) and the nostalgia they encourage.
Without sounding a death knell, I feel proud of what i’ve created here and long may it continue.
TTFN.

Hey mate, not long till we go back : ) 2 weeks :O
I wanted to ask you two things and they are fairly serious. The first thing is whether you know what modules we’re doing because I received the timetable but it includes a whole bunch of modules.
Anyway the more important question has to do with after graduating. I was wondering what you were going to do because I’ve been reading some articles lately and I’ve noticed an increase in Iphone games that are making people lots of money.
There’s this one game where you move colour jewels so they match up and it is said to make the creator 2 million by the end of the year.
My point is while we’re job hunting would you consider working on a game for the Iphone. It would certainly look good on your portfolio as well. Talk to me about it because I’m quite serious about it.

Hey mate, sorry for the late response, I forgot i’d have to approve your first comment so I didn’t see it waiting for me in WP =S
Well the timetable thing is pretty messed up, typical UEL! I’ve sent you an email to try to explain what I think’s going on..
I’m intrigued about the iPhone game idea, and admittedly surprised you’d want to work with me again considering my disastrous turn as team leader last year!=S
That said, I was giving some thought to developing for the iPhone a few months ago and even signed up to the Apple Developer Connection (you just need a free Apple ID) and had a look around.
The good news is that Apple gives you lots of free integrated developer tools like Xcode and Interface Builder (also used for development on the Mac) and other iPhone specific applications, and the docs to back them up.
However to create apps for the iPhone you need a Mac and you also need to learn Cocoa; the development framework for Mac/iPhone, and in turn it’s primary programming language Objective-C. In my excitement I did pick up a book on Cocoa but I can’t really say i’ve studied it. At the time I was thinking of developing for the Mac and ended up moving on to RealBASIC (Brilliant program, reminds me of VisualBasic).
Not to discourage you though as it’s definitely something I want to do in future, although i’m not really bothered about profit, lol =)

Hmm, something that completely slipped my mind is the new iPhone publishing support in Unity. Doh!
I think I mentioned Unity to you before, it’s relatively inexpensive for the Indie version and looks very appealing as it has a nice drag and drop UI and supports scripting in Javascript among others.
Unfortunately I squandered my time with the trial version, but as soon as I have some spare change I think I’ll be trying it out for real.
The good thing about it’s iPhone support (Sold seperately) is that you don’t need to learn to use XCode, Unity compiles it for you using Apple’s tools. Check out the demo video at: http://unity3d.com/unity/features/iphone-publishing
