I just stumbled across this fantastic little application – GimmeSomeTune – which automates alot of the stuff you can do in iTunes. Most notably the retrieval of album artwork and..something i’ve been wanting for awhile.. the ability to display song lyrics (you can add lyrics in iTunes but they’re only for sending to an iPod).

So now I can see the lyrics to a song while it’s playing by pressing a simple shortcut, and the application searches Amazon and the iTunes store for artwork, plus you can define your own “No album artwork” image……Oh yes and the best part is this little app is FREE (Donations suggested).

Among the other life changing things i’ve discovered this week are that juice “from concentrate” is juice that has the water sucked out of it to reduce it’s bulk. It’s then frozen and stored until required and water plus nutrients are added to bring it up to the necessary volume.

Oh yeah, and beef burgers can be deadly;-)

During a moment of idleness yesterday I punched my name into Google – haven’t we all? Thankfully no drug lord appears to be using my identity, in fact the only page relating to me that I found was my name on a group list on my tutor’s site.

My browsing eventually dumped me at the Friends Reunited website – we all know it, right? Out of curiosity I decided to sign up (free) and see if I could find anyone. Very soon I found atleast 5 ppl from my old schools but frustratingly you can’t contact them without a paid membership – I didn’t really want to anyway. It’s strange, in some ways I don’t want to know how ppl’s lives turned out – incidentally one is training to be a teacher, one a budding musician and one is in Canada apparently – I want to remember them as they are, but when Friends Reunited dropped me an email this morning advising new members had joined my schools I couldn’t resist a look.

Combined with the Friends Reunited site is Genes Reunited – a genealogy website. It’s not bad considering you can sign up for free at the same time as Friends United, and it allows you to use an online application to create your family tree. A nice feature is that when you enter names it cross-references these with other trees on the site: 3 ppl share my mother’s full name for example. Again, you can only go so far before you have to pay: you buy credits to access archives and they only hold these for England, not Scotland and Ireland (but they tell you where to go). Still, I may consider it as atleast one of my genealogy solutions both because the fantastic Reunion 9 application for Mac is so expensive (~£50) and being online reduces the risk of wiping my hard disk (like before). It also means access anywhere and you can share trees with your family for easier cross-referencing and editing.

    Time for coffee…
