What a fun day I’ve had!
Our lecture this morning was cancelled – unfortunately – so we went back to mine for some games: Metal Slug 3, Half Life 2, Guild Wars and Shadow of The Colossus. It was a really cool way to chill out!
In the afternoon we had our Computer Graphics class and the tutor went over our project – to design the interface to a role-playing game (examples of rpgs would be World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Guild Wars etc) – i’m actually really enjoying it. It’s alot more involved than you’d think and he basically gave us free reign to take it as far as we want so long as we complete the brief. incidentally – Eve tells me I haven’t logged in since 1st August 2007!! It seems to have changed a bit – there’s some thing called overclocking or something on the weapon icons – looks like i’ll need to revisit the tutorial. Still no sign of the 3D mingling in stations – maybe they scrapped that idea? I really need to catch up.
The reason I booted Eve back up is to look at the interface more closely for ideas for this project – it’s actually quite nice compared to screenies i’ve Googled for World of Warcraft which looks downright horrible. Just one more reason why I’ll never play WoW. I also dug out some screenies of Ragnarok Online which still looks as cutesy as ever!
Also today, I found out a girl in my class is also a Tombraider fan – we had a lengthy conversation about the different games. It’s interesting to see how my opinions had changed: by chance tonight I stumbled across this review I wrote of the demo a long time ago.
I’ve been discovering the merits of iCal today, Mac OS X’s calendar program. I’ve set different coloured calendars for different aspects of my life – Home (personal stuff, travel etc), University (deadlines, meetings), maintenance (Backup, Automator workflows), and Birthdays (taken from my Address Book contacts). It’s all pretty handy – especially being able to choose which calendars show. For example, it’s useful to schedule an iTunes alarm to wake me up in the morning and backing up my email as mentioned before, but I don’t need to see it on the calendar all the time, so I can hide the Maintenance stuff.
I’ve also set up to do tasks, ordered by priority and due date, and this ties in nicely with the iCal Events widget so I can see everything at a glance on Dashboard.
Oh and I have another flatmate – that’s now four of us in total – but I haven’t met him yet. I beleive he’s Chinese.
That’s all for now – I want to have another coffee and get back to this project!
