I want an iMac. Simple as that.

I’ve been meaning to replace/upgrade my pc for a long time but I can just never seem to seriously put away some money to do it. I’ve always liked the look of Macs and i’ve played around with them before but I was always put off because I use Windows and I didn’t want to lose the use of my favourite games/programs if they didn’t work on a Mac. Still, the itch has always been waiting to be scratched…

I was messing about with iTunes today, trying out podcasts again (I previously used iPodder but iTunes is so much better for podcasts!) and I ended up on the Apple homepage. It’s cool because they have 3 funny little videos with two guys – one being a PC and one being a Mac – to highlight the benefits of a Mac. Check them out.

Now obviously it’s all biased because it’s on the Apple homepage, just as Microsoft is always trying to sell Windows, but they did mention that you can now use Windows on a Mac! I don’t know if this is a new thing but it’s the first I heard of it.

I checked it out and by buying a program called Parallel Desktop for your Mac you can create a virtual machine (essentially another machine such as a PC within the Mac itself) on which you can run Windows or Linux etc. Maybe it’s just me, but the idea of combining Mac OS X, Windows XP and Linux on one, funky looking machine, sounds like a dream come true!

So yeah, i’m getting carried away, but I still want an iMac! *makes those oh-so-cute puppy dog eyes* (No I don’t really have those but it was worth a shot)

Back to the podcasts – the reason for my renewed interest is the article that was in today’s paper about some popular ones on iTunes. I’ve subscribed to them and they’re pretty good – it’s like listening to the radio. Right now i’m listening to one called Inside The Net which highlights new stuff on the net and this episode is about ReGenesis TV which is a tv series, online game and podcasts all combined which sounds quite cool – I’ve only been half-listening to the podcast so I don’t know much about it, but it sounds like you interact with characters from the tv show and take part in the plot. Pretty intriguing stuff but I haven’t seen the tv show so I don’t know what it’s about! I think it’s an American show?

    In the websites own words:

By registering, you will step into the world of ReGenesis.

    • You will no longer be just a passive television viewer.
    • You will become an INVESTIGATOR in ReGenesis where NorBAC is REAL and needs your help.
    • You will uncover CLUES to find out the TRUTH behind the story.

Pieces of the puzzle can be anywhere. Beginning with emails that are synchronized with each episode, you will soon enter A MAZE OF COMMUNICATIONS across multiple websites, discussion with other viewers, email dispatches, webcam video, classified documents, even telephone voicemail and a login that allows you access to the internal network of NorBAC.

    Remember…
YOU decide how far to push forward in the game. Only you know the whole story. Be a part of it.

Sounds pretty cool huh? Apparently there are podcasts you can check out to catch up if you’ve missed the tv shows.

Other podcasts i’ve subscribed to are The French Podcast (a learn-french series), Sciencetalk (news from Scientific American on the latest science & technology news) and Lonely Planet Travelcasts (various travel-guides from Lonely Planet).

It’s all wonderful, funky stuff ya know?

An iMac sounds cool. The only niggle I have about podcasts is that they don’t really have subtitles. Also apparently they are developing podcasting technology in the audio sense of the word so there will be even LESS subtitles than there are now. It can’t really be excused because so many deaf people use the net for finding information and so on.
