'Fraid so..what you see is what you get. You do kinda have to make the story your own - making corporations and gangs, organising business ventures (asteroid mining teams or pirates etc) and just interacting with the other players, mostly through the chat channels unless you msg someone directly.

There are storyline missions regarding the four races Gallente, Amarr, Minmatar and Caldari, but I'm not sure how these are generated as i've only had a couple myself. It probably has to do with your standing with an agent etc.

There are loads of missions of course - you just look up an available agent on the map and go see them. They each have a specific mission type that they (usually) give you - such as courier, security, personnel etc.

I think Eve is what you make it and your experience depends on how you approach it. I haven't had any pvp (player versus player) fights yet as I stay in the (mostly) safe areas and I haven't attacked anyone/given them cause to attack me.

I will at some point as I want to hunt bounties - but i'm not stupid enough to think my current ships and skills are good enough. I nearly got myself in trouble last night when I tried to take on too many NPC drones at once.

Also it depends on the type of player you are. I know how hard it is to save up and get stuff in Eve so i'm not the type to steal stuff off other people/attack younger players. There's a police force in place anyway in the higher security areas to alleviate this.

I have spent most of my time in Eve solo so far. I'm still with an NPC corporation (The one you start with) as I don't want to have to risk my character in corporation wars or mine all day or run trade routes to low security areas just for the sake of the corporation. If I find a corporation I like the look of I might join, or start my own when I research those skills.

The few ppl I did talk to when I started I haven't spoken to since (I left Eve alone for months on end!=S) so I'm not in any gang. I regularly follow and sometimes participate in the Help channel though. I've learned alot by keeping an eye on other players questions and answers, and it kills the boredom of long courier runs.

I like the look of rpgs in general, although I don't have much experience with them. It comes naturally to some ppl, getting their heads round all the stuff in rpgs, but i'm still a newbie in this area.

I did like Ragnarok Online when I tried it - I just got frustrated - but I'm sure i'll go back to it someday as I like the look of it and it showed promise.

I guess the science fiction type stuff interests me more, although I like fantasy stuff aswell (Most of the books on my shelves are of the wizards/dragons theme) - I just haven't seriously gotten into a rpg before.

I like Eve, but at the same time I'm not a hardcore player. Some ppl log in at certain times just to get the best trade routes, the let their ships mine overnight while they're AFK (Away From the Keyboard - I learned that one just last night=)) and they have several alternate characters on the go at once.

Me, I just play when i feel like it, which has been atleast once a day lately, but I still have a long way to go before I graduate from being a newbie. I need to get into the whole corporations thing and blueprint researching for building ships - but all that costs time and money.

Right now I'm doing missions and killing NPC drones en route while I raise the funds to make my existing ships better. The next step up is really a Cruiser class ship but the cheapest is about 2 million, lol

Anyway, don't worry, you don't have to play Eve for my sake - you can follow my exploits right here - and I look forward to your own fantasy adventures=)

Cheers

I tend to favor roleplaying games, though, with a plotline and characters you interact with. It doesn't look like I'd get any cool battle scenes that weren't in ships...?

Go for it!

It's not easy: The ships I have are mostly frigates which are at the lower end of the market (I have one industrial too) and I can't claim to have found the best way to make money yet, but it's definately a mmorpg that's worth a look=)
